Finding Your Way
Friday, August 27th, 2010I was recently at a networking event sponsored by a “new mommy” magazine. I shared with some of the women there that I wrote a blog on the part-time employment model and how it can be the perfect solution for many mothers wanting to both raise their children and continue their career. One gal mentioned that pregnant women take a great deal of thought deciding whether to continue working and most often come up with a game plan on how to navigate the road ahead. Then something occurred to me…
I don’t truly believe that any woman, upon expecting her first child, can reasonably expect to know what she is going to want and need to balance her life once the baby comes. She might decide to stay home, only to realize three months later that she truly needs to work. She might decide to work, but suddenly feels that she needs to be with her baby more.
The point is this: Our needs change and we can never really predict with certainty what we are going to want out of life tomorrow. The key, I suppose, is to keep an open mind and be aware of what keeps you balanced. Who knows? Part-time employment may be the perfect path to a new mom’s work-life balance.

Work-life balance and supplemental income are the two biggest reasons many choose the option of part-time work, but there are other pluses that PT employment offers job seekers.

Friday, July 30th, 2010Your Own Little Sustainability Project
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010You need energy. Energy to work hard at your career or part-time job hunt. Energy to be an active parent. Energy to maintain a semblance of order and calm in your home. Energy to take on all the little things that life throws at you. Yes, we all need energy; however most of us, including many very successful people, have no clue that they are toiling through this world inefficiently and without an energy game plan. You need one.
While there are no wind turbines or solar panels that will generate your internal energy and focus, there are things you can do every day that will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul; and leave you best prepared for all of life’s challenges. Think of it as your own little “Sustainability Project.”
